Locating the perfect place for a family lunch can be tricky.
One of the biggest perks of spending a morning or afternoon at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is its proximity to great cafés and restaurants. We understand how hard it can be to navigate hungry tummies and expressions of hanger after hours of exploration.
Most of our suggestions can handily be found inside the chq building, so if you’re planning a day out to the EPIC museum, but you’re not sure what food spots are available to facilitate a family lunch, look no further.
1. Urban Brewing
The food offering at Urban Brewing is extensive for picky eaters, which makes it ideal for picky eaters. It’s perfect for a family lunch after a trip to EPIC as it’s based at the other end of the chq building, accessible from the outside, and does your classic burgers and fries, which is often all the kids really want to eat, as well as some more decadent options for parents, such as citrus-cured sea trout salad and cacio e pepe tagliatelle.

2. Bakehouse
For a café based within the chq building, Bakehouse offers a wide range of options for lunch. They have an almost canteen style system, where you can choose hot food from mac n cheese, to chicken and broccoli bake, to beef and Guinness pie, to go with a wide range of salads that would give Avoca a run for their money. If you’re more of a soup and sandwich person, this is also available, with daily specials on the board, and many sandwich fillings to choose from. A family lunch where everyone gets what they want!

3. Seven Wonders
Anyone who has passed through chq in recent years will recognise the fluorescent orange beacon that is Seven Wonders. Like Bakehouse, they cater to a variety of tastes, with hefty bagels with several flavour combinations, hot pasta dishes that will keep you full for hours, and generous salad boxes where you’ll find fan favourites like a caesar salad, a cobb salad, or a Mediterranean salad. You’ll find plenty of seating inside and outside Seven Wonders, with no booking required – be sure to grab one of their famous smoothies or juices to go with your food.

4. Tír Deli
Beloved on the Dublin food scene, chq was delighted with the arrival of Tír Deli back in February. Making sandwiches using only the freshest of ingredients, and the most seasonal, Tír has solidified its place as a great option for family lunch, regardless of its proximity to EPIC. They offer deals on soup and sandwich, and a range of options for meat-eaters, and vegetarians. Trust us, these sandwiches are decadent and filling

5. Happy Out
The latest addition to the Dublin Docklands is Happy Out, an established café operating in both Dún Laoghaire, Bull Island, and Donnybrook amongst other locations that do a gorgeous breakfast, lunch, and coffee. Although they’re not based inside chq, they are just a two minute walk away in the HQ20 Water Sports Centre, based in front of the Jeanie Johnston Famine ship, have ample seating inside, and serve a range of toasted sandwiches and foccaccia sandwiches.
