Escape your house and explore the world alongside the Irish diaspora this summer with our Explorers Imagination Summer Camp for kids! Delivered remotely, this camp consists of a 1-hour Zoom delivered session, followed by 2-hours of engaging activities for children aged 6 – 12 years and families to do at home together.
Led by an experienced facilitator, families will explore a different theme related to travel each day, discovering the history of the Irish diaspora through intriguing stories and fun facts, before using their imagination to complete a series of fun and creative ‘at-home’ activities.
Designed to get kids engaging with their environment afresh, we’ll take to the air, explore the seven seas, traverse the jungles and polar ice caps, before finally arriving in space. Along the way, we’ll meet a whole host of famous EPIC characters, including pirate Anne Bonny, RAF pilot Spitfire Paddy, explorers Ernest Shackleton and Elizabeth La Blond, and astronaut Neil Armstrong.
Kids will be encouraged to use their creativity and ingenuity to complete tasks such as making their own boat, designing the surface of the moon, and discovering animal tracks, all out of whatever materials and objects they can find at home.
The camp will run Monday – Friday, with a one-hour daily Zoom workshop from 10am – 11am, followed by 2-hours of online support for unsupervised family activities to take place between 11am – 1pm. Families can choose from a one-day ticket or a five-day ticket. Please see outline below for more information on particular days.

Facilitator: Shannon Wilson is EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum’s Education and Outreach Manager. With a background in mixed media and a masters in visual, material and museum anthropology from Oxford University, Shannon is experienced in devising and delivering a fun range of educational workshops for all age groups that celebrate both tangible and intangible heritage, including everything from coding and space camps, to crafting and storytelling workshops.
Important: This camp will be delivered remotely via Zoom. Please do not journey to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum for this camp. As this camp is delivered remotely, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is not responsible for supervising children during the course of this camp. Parents and guardians are advised that children will be asked to complete a number of tasks using their imagination, home environment and materials available to them, so require adult supervision at all times, and should wear old clothes and be prepared to get messy!
