10:30am & 12:00pm. Wednesdays 3 July – 21 August
Come with us on a journey through time and space!
Every Wednesday this July and August, EPIC and the Irish Family History Centre will be using arts, crafts and games to explore some of the museum’s most curious characters. In these workshops, we’ll be going on adventures from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of the galaxy – but all you need is your imagination to tag along!
The adventures include…
Week 1 – 3rd July
Are you ready to sail the seven seas? Create your own pirate survival kit, including treasure map and spyglass, alongside rebel pirates like Anne Bonny and Mary Read.
Week 2 – 10th July
Into the Wild
Jump into the jungle and run through the rainforest with activities inspired by the adventures of wildlife experts Liz Bonnin and Bear Grylls. Make your own colourful animal masks, birds of paradise and bookmarks to bring out your wild side.
Week 3 – 17th July
The Science of You
To tie in with the Festival of Curiosity, we’ll be mixing science and art to learn what makes you, YOU! From X-Ray and DNA inspired art to scientists like Margaret Bulkley and Robert Boyle, it’s sure to bring out your inner scientist!
Week 4 – 24th July
Up, Up and Away
Have you fastened your seatbelt and put your goggles on? This week we’ll be taking to the skies with characters such as Spitfire Paddy! Make your own airplane and flying kit so you’re ready to take flight.
Week 5 – 31st July
Christmas in July
Did you ever hear of Christmas in July? It’s snow joke! Grab your jacket, hat and scarf for this chilly workshop where we really make it snow! Based on Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton, make your own winter scene in a jar.
Week 6 – 7th August
Lost in Space
The Irish have travelled everywhere, but what would an Irish colony be like in space? Follow in the moonwalk of Irish space experts like Niamh Shaw and Jocelyn Bell Burnell to design your own planet, from drawing out a map to actually making your own planet with foam clay!
Week 7 – 14th August
Explore the past in this rawrsome-ly themed workshop all about the fun world of fossils! From the terrifying T-Rex to the things they left behind, discover Irish fossil hunters such as Robert Bell and take part in your own archaeological dig!
Week 8 – 21st August
Create and craft
To tie in with National Heritage Week, this week we’ll become our own designers inspired by Philip Treacy and Orla Kiely. Make your own clay pot or stylish paper hat, and learn all about the crafts of the past. It’s not just stories that are passed down from generation to generation!
The fine print (for parents):
Tickets cost €8 per child, with 1x ticket required for each child attending. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times during the event.
