Rhythm and Irish Roots: Exploring Bowie’s Irish Heritage

Did you know David Bowie’s ancestors hailed from county Tipperary?

Or that he had a lifelong interest in the work of Irish writers and artists like Samuel Beckett and Jack B. Yeats?

As part of this year’s David Bowie festival, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum and the Irish Family History Centre will explore how migration shaped the life and work of this iconic singer, songwriter, musician, and actor and to what extent his connections to Ireland and Irish culture influenced his career.

Kayleigh Bealin is a professional genealogist at the Family History Centre and research manager at Eneclann.

Experienced in DNA research, unknown parentage and adoption cases, and general Irish family history research, Kayleigh is also completing her MSc in Genealogical, Heraldic, and Palaeographic Studies at the University of Strathclyde.

When she’s not conducting genealogical research or presenting talks about David Bowie, Kayleigh is restoring old buildings and staying caffeinated with lots of coffee.
