Celebrate International Women’s Day by shining a light on Irish Women’s History and getting creative! Suitable for secondary school students, this workshop will explore the fascinating field of women’s history through an Irish lens. Tying into the History curriculum, we will hear case studies of women who left Irish shores to make their mark across the globe and innovate in their fields, before being inspired to bring them to life, through poster making.

Participants will explore why the study of women’s history is so important, some events that impacted women in Ireland over the 19th and 20th centuries and some case studies of amazing women, such as Mother Jones, a suffragist and worker’s rights campaigner in the USA; and Lady Mary Heath, the first female commercial pilot in the UK. Using this information as a catalyst to explore students’ own passions, they will be guided through the process of creating a poster to champion their own causes, that they can finish after the session.

Materials required for this workshop: Paper, art materials of choice (markers, colouring pencils, paint or collage paper).
