EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is a space for all age groups, with a variety of interests. The museum prides itself on being accessible, whether you’re an adult, a student, or a child – and there is plenty of elements that kids love about EPIC.

From kids’ trails, to interactive technology, to their very own passport, EPIC is both educational and entertaining for your little ones.

1. The Passport

One of the most iconic features at EPIC is the passport. Visitors take quite the journey through the museum and its many galleries. It’s only right that they can show off their trail through the EPIC passport. This has long been a favourite for children visiting the museum – no more than a minute goes by in any gallery without the sound of the passport being stamped in the machines.

The passport is just one of the many elements that kids love about EPIC.

2. Isle of the Senses

EPIC recently underwent a huge renovation to the first three galleries, upping the interactive and immersive elements even more than before. One of these galleries became Isle of the Senses, which pays homage to the sounds, smells, and feel of the Irish landscape.

3. LED Interactive Floor

The Leaving the Island Gallery got a serious upgrade back in March 2026 – while our famous ship statue still remains, the museum got a very exciting new addition to assist in visualising how people emigrated. The newly installed interactive LED floor, which showcases the many ways in which Irish people left Ireland, is the largest of its kind in any Irish museum. Spanning 28 square metres, it brings the movement of emigration vividly to life, from monks setting out in currachs to steamships, ocean liners and airplanes.

Kids love this element of EPIC, changing the direction of the ships and planes, and bringing forth St George’s Monster from the depths. Prepare to spend a lot of time in this room with your little ones.

4. Sports Table

EPIC prides itself on its interactive elements, as you have previously seen with the Isle of the Senses and LED floor. An original feature of the museum is our sports table, an interactive piece of equipment for kids to learn about their favourite sport, and the famous Irish diaspora members associated with it.

5. Kids’ Tour

Alongside the gallery upgrades, EPIC has a brand new app that visitors are able to download ahead of their visit to amplify their experience. On this app, there is a specific tour for children, that speaks to what’s in the museum but in a language that is better understood by them.

The new audio app with trails specific to different topics or ages is another element kids love about EPIC.
