While there are many ways to pass the time in this city – museums, galleries, golf simulators – one of my favourite ways to blow off some steam is through a karaoke session. For a city as small as Dublin, you’d think karaoke bars would be hard to find, but in fact they’re based in all parts of the centre, often accompanied by delicious food and drinks. These are just a few of my favourite spots, although I won’t stop until I’ve sampled every karaoke bar there is to offer in Ireland.
1. Drunken Fish
Location: Mayor Street Lower
For the Mariah Careys of the world, Drunken Fish just might be where you’re scouted. Why? It’s an open karaoke spot – no hiding behind a private booth or room. It’s rough and ready and bound to get even the shyest of people on their feet for a sing-song. What makes this location even better is that it’s based just 5 minutes away from EPIC, making it ideal for a day out by the Docklands. They have a book the size of an old school yellow pages, with almost as many songs as there are numbers, so perfect whether you’re after ABBA, Miley Cyrus, or Oasis.

2. Marrakesh
Location: Capel Street
For those who can’t face the music (or the public) Marrakesh provides private karaoke rooms where you can screech like a cat until the cows come home – or until their friends beg them to stop. Ideal for larger groups, you can order from the bar outside if in need of liquid courage, Marrakesh combines Moroccan gastronomy with pop culture music, and best of all hosts its performers until 1am every night of the week. Definitely one of the best karaoke bars in Dublin.

3. Maneki
Location: Dawson Street
For Japanese inspired cocktails – made with sake – that can be ordered via your karaoke machine, Maneki is the best place for it. Ascend stairs upon stairs to get to your own private room, complete with two microphones and the option to singalong to the music, or to be the main star and go solo. Perfect for hens, birthdays, or those evenings you simply never want to end.
