EPIC nominated for top Children’s museum award

EPIC EMA AwardEPIC The Irish Emigration Museum is Ireland’s first digital museum, and our interactive elements such as colourful touch screens, motion sensor quizzes, and our whispering library have proved a huge success with children of all ages, making learning the story of Irish Emigration a fun and memorable experience. Now EPIC’s family-friendly nature has been recognised with a shortlisting by the prestigious Children in Museums Award, which is awarded by European Museum Academy and Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums.

EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum has been open in its location in the vaults of CHQ in the heart of Dublin’s Docklands for just over a year, and is already making waves in the national and international museum community. This recent nomination comes on the back of several recent awards and short-listings, including: The Dublin Docklands Business Awards Innovator Award 2016; The Architecture Expo Interior Design & Fit-Out Award 2016; the AV Entertainment Venue of the Year Award 2017; the Irish Tourism Industry Awards Best Leisure Tourism Innovation 2017; SFA National Small Business Awards Emerging New Business Award 2017; and the 2017 Public Choice Awards at the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards.

Hands On! International Association of Children in Museums is an international professional organisation representing and advocating for its non-profit member institutions. It actively stimulates the creation and development of children’s museums (including science centres, large collections based institutions serving young visitors) and more space for cultural and educational activities for children and young people. Hands On! supports the important role of children’s museums as centres where play inspires creativity, informal and lifelong learning. The European Museum Association (EMA) is a non-profit Foundation established to reflect museums at the international level.

The award winner will be announced at the Award ceremony that will take place during the Hands On! Conference, 11-14 October 2017 in Pilsen, Czech Republic.
